Pregnancy

For those who are newly pregnant or planning pregnancy and wanting to optimise health and nutrition to best support you and your growing baby. We know that maternal nutrition can have lasting impacts on your child’s health and so it is worth giving food a thought. I do understand that pregnancy can also bring about some difficult symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and food aversions to name just a few, for which I can offer guidance. I can help and advice around which supplements to take and navigating the foods to avoid in pregnancy. We can also start thinking about preparation for your new arrival and the post-partum period.

Post-partum

The fourth trimester often gets overlooked but as well as being a wonderful time with your newborn it can also be incredibly challenging. With your body recovering from pregnancy and the birth on top of new demands of having a newborn, not to mention next level tiredness a bit of support may be what you need. I can help with optimising your post-partum diet to aid recovery and meet new nutrient demands. I can also give guidance on foods that will give you the needed energy levels as well as keeping you satisfied.

Tired Mums

When you become a parent, tiredness is one of the biggest challenges, it certainly has been for me. Tiredness and diet are linked, we know from the evidence that sleep deprivation really impacts on the amount and types of food we eat. Conversely some foods that we choose to eat can also lead to feelings of fatigue. It’s a vicious cycle. While I can’t claim to cure all tiredness I certainly have some tactics that will help give you more stability and energy in your day. My methods are by no means radical or restrictive and I also know the therapeutic worth of cake and chocolate.

When is it the right time to wean your baby?

What I would advise is not to leave weaning too long beyond 6 months, even If your baby is slow to take to solids that is fine and it can be built at gentle pace. There are 3 important signs to look out for that will indicate if your baby is ready for food.

    How sleep affects eating habits

Most will attest to the fact that when they are tired and sleep-deprived, their eating habits change. We know about the importance of sleep and that insufficient sleep is associated with multiple negative health outcomes. But how does lack of sleep affect eating habits?
